“A day of fishing is full of surprises, the fish is one of them”
In this activity there is a positive union between modern technology and the most ancestral of traditions, all in the service of responsable fishing. It is about a philosophy based on the knowledge of the element, the species and their migratory routes. But there is more, much more. “A day of fishing is full of pleasant surprises but the fish is just one of them.” This invitation is about combining a recreational activity with the fishing culture and the wisdom that comes with it. In other words, it is about learning how to combine common sense and curiousness when it comes to taking responsible decisions. The participants will discover how to get fish which is at the same time good, clean and sustainable. What really matters in a day of fishing is the experience and the first-hand emotions connected to it, and other people’s tales have no relevance whatsoever. “Stop listening to them and just go and live it yourself!” In this way, the participants will discover how to provide themselves with sea products of excellent quality, always in line with the principles of sustainability.
The different tour types and fishing techniques vary with the season. With Oribay the participants will be able to experience, among other techniques, coastal trolling, which is done close to the sea surface using artificial baits and it is usually practiced from spring to autumn. This is only one of our tour types.
Our selection of activities also includes other fishing styles such as: ‘jigging’ where a lead sinker with a hook is left sinking from the boat all the way to the bottom, or ‘spinning’, a sport fishing style based on throwing and retrieving the artificial lure by dragging them back at different speeds and depths.
Oribay also cooperates with the Azti investigation center in tagging and releasing Atlantic bluefin tunas, a species whose trails is always a fascinating discovery. In fact, it is not unusual to see tunas tagged and released along the Guipuzcoan coast several years later, which after they have crossed the Atlantic Ocean once reached reproductive age. The electronic tag carried around by these animals provides precious information about their migration routes, and allows us to know the global Atlantic bluefin population.
